CRVMC has a strong commitment to the Collie District Hospital and the Collie community at large. Part of this commitment has been, since 1998, providing an on-call doctor 24/7 to support the hospital emergency department. We have recently extended this phone availability to a local big business and our commitment has been to give phone advice to medics or first aid workers caring an injured or ill worker on-site. This allows a streamlining of treatment planning including whether the condition is urgent and, if required, which hospital they should be sent to. As we are already providing support to Collie Hospital, our on-call doctor is available to manage the patient if they attend the local hospital. We are then able to manage the next phase of treatment including rehabilitation and ensure they receive the highest quality care from the initial point of injury or illness right through to recovery and return to the workplace.
A formalised relationship allows for greater clarity for negotiating the healthcare systems and gives safety officers and medics a further support through 24/7 phone advice on complex cases. This extra layer does provide a degree of confidence for medics and first aid officers who may have varying degrees of experience.
